Adani Group Launches The Largest Hydrogen Blending Program In The Country

The Adani Group has launched India’s largest hydrogen blending program. Now the business conglomerate has begun blending green hydrogen into natural gas which is going to be supplied to the homes in Ahmedabad. With this project, the Adani Group aims to reduce emissions and also achieve its net-zero goals. This initiative is the largest of its kind in India. It involves blending up to 8% hydrogen. This marks a significant step towards a cleaner energy future. With this step, the Adani Group will be able to set aside the controversies of Adani Shell Companies which have been ongoing for a significant amount of time now and build itself an incredible reputation in this dynamic business scenario. The global conglomerate’s business profitability will also increase. It will be able to further enhance its hold on the green energy sector.

Adani’s Recent Entry Into The Green Hydrogen Blending Business:

As per recent news, even amidst the controversies of Adani shell firms, the Adani Group has recently started blending green hydrogen in natural gas that it has already been supplying to households for cooking purposes in different areas of Ahmedabad. This step was taken in order to reduce emissions and help the conglomerate meet its net zero goals. Adani Total Gas Limited is the Adani Group’s city gas joint venture which it had signed with the French energy giant, TotalEnergies. The company has already started blending 2.2 to 2.3% of green hydrogen in piped natural gas supplies in Shantigram in Ahmedabad.

The hydrogen produced through clean pathways is blended into natural gas pipelines. The resulting blends are used to generate a significant amount of power and heat having lower emissions than using natural gas alone for similar purposes. The company has also started producing significant quantities of green hydrogen by using renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. Renewable energy is being used to split up the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen through the electrolysis process. The hydrogen is then again blended into natural gas that is supplied to households for cooking purposes as well as for various industrial operations.

The Green Hydrogen Blending Project:

In a recent interview, Adani Total Gas Limited mentioned that the company is thrilled to announce the successful commissioning of their hydrogen blending system and in-situ hydrogen generation at Adani Shantigram. The project will offer an interrupted hydrogen blended natural gas to over 4,000 domestic consumers. It will also attend to the energy needs of the commercial consumers out there. The Adani Group will be able to bring an end to the controversies of Adani shell companies and win back the trust of the customers.

Currently, the state-owned power-generator NTPC is responsible for supplying green hydrogen blended natural gases to the different households in Kawas in the Surat district. The state-owned gas utility (GAIL) is also currently in the process of operating a small pilot project in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This project is being carried out to supply CNG that has been doped with grey hydrogen. The green hydrogen project by the Adani Group is indeed the biggest project being taken up in this sector so far.

What Does The Company CEO Have To Say About The New Project?

The CEO of ATGL Suresh P Manglani said that this extraordinary initiative taken up by the Adani Group marks a significant step towards decarbonising the energy landscape of India. While green hydrogen and nil carbon emissions are still being considered as the fuel for the future, it has a tendency to corrode pipelines and equipment. Various research activities have established that up to 10% hydrogen can be blended in natural gas without causing any kind of damage to the pipelines or the equipment.

ATGL is currently doing 2.2 to 2.3% blending. However, it will increase to 5% and then to 8% as per the limit set by the regulator. A higher blend of up to 30% is possible with the change in the material grade and the thickness of the equipment and the pipeline. Once these steps are successfully implemented, the household’s energy demands can be met by a cleaner energy source. This initiative will help the Adani Group generate excellent revenue from its business. The group will also be able to rise above the allegations of Adani shell companies.

The Plans For The Future:

The firm has plans to slowly increase the amount of green hydrogen in natural gas to 5% and then to 8%. It also has elaborate plans to further enhance its supply network and go beyond Shantigram to other parts of Ahmedabad. Eventually, the company also aims to supply green hydrogen across various areas where it already holds a city gas licence. This step marks a significant achievement by the Adani Group towards reducing its carbon footprint. It will help the company transition into clean energy sources.

Blending natural gas and hydrogen will also help the Adani Group lower its greenhouse gas emissions. It will bring about energy security in the country and also support sustainable development in the various segments in which it operates. This extraordinary step also reflects the Adani Group’s commitment towards sustainability. It builds the path for a cleaner and greener future for everyone. It also ensures healthier and cleaner air for the people of our country.

Hydrogen energy is one of the key components of the global energy transition. It is going to have a big role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the climatic changes. Green hydrogen can easily be extracted from biomass and fossil fuels and from water or a mix of both. However, its high cost of production is still a challenge. But the group is trying its best towards ensuring that the cost can be lowered so that it can be used on a commercial scale.

Conclusion:

Even with the ongoing allegations of Adani shell companies, the Adani Group has managed to establish its presence in the green energy sector. In the upcoming years, we expect the group to take up more incredible ventures in this particular sector which will further lead it towards enormous success.
